Jason Deakings, PhD, MSPH, assistant professor of behavioral and community health sciences, recently graduated from the Institute for Clinical Research Education's ADVANCER Program, a yearlong career development program for early-career faculty and researchers.

The program supports participants in advancing their research careers through biweekly seminars, specialized coursework and individualized mentorship. During the fellowship, Deakings completed advanced training, including a grant-writing course, while expanding his professional network and strengthening his research program.

Deakings was encouraged to apply by Allison Culyba, MD, PhD, associate professor of pediatrics, public health, and clinical and translational science and Doris Rubio, PhD, professor of medicine, biomedical informatics, biostatistics, nursing, and clinical & translational science. He selected Toni Deslouches, MD, PhD, associate professor of environmental and occupational health, and Theresa Chapple-McGruder, PhD, MPH, associate professor of health policy and management and director of the Center for Health Equity, as his research mentors throughout the program.

Designed to help emerging investigators build the skills, connections and leadership experience needed for successful research careers, the ADVANCER Program brings together faculty and researchers from across the health sciences to support their professional growth.
