Contributions to Public Health

  • Teaching and Mentoring: My academic career has focused on teaching health/public health law and policy, with an emphasis on educating students about the power of law as a tool to achieve public health goals. I incorporate my experience as a former practicing attorney as well as my research activities in the classroom as much as possible. In our current, rapidly evolving legal environment, I strive to include the most pressing legal cases and controversies in my classes. I routinely mentor students interested in pursuing careers in law and policy. I am proud of being the recipient of the 2024 Dr. James L. Craig Endowed Excellence in Education award from the School of Public Health.
  • Research: My research has focused on using legal epidemiology and other research methods to examine law and policy issues associated with the delivery and quality of health care services, emergency preparedness and tribal legal preparedness, health equity and the social determinants of health, and population health.
