COLLABORATIVE FILMMAKING for incoming students

Wednesday 7/15 7:00PM - 8:00PM

A film screening and discussion about a novel, arts-based research method for studying health behaviors.

collaborative filmmakingIncoming students are invited on Wednesday, July 15 at 7 p.m. to join the creators of the collaborative filmmaking method, postdoctoral associate Sara Baumann (BCHS ‘19) and BCHS' Jessie Burke, for a one-hour documentary to learn about the approach. Then view seven short vignettes filmed and created by youth filmmakers from Kanchanpur in far-west Nepal (see trailer here). The films explore a variety of menstrual practices and beliefs, where some practices leave women and girls vulnerable to adverse health outcomes. The girls come from a range of different caste/ethnic and religious backgrounds, and their stories highlight that in one village alone, menstrual practices and motivations can take many forms. A discussion will follow the screening about the method and opportunities for applying it in different contexts.
