Thursday 3/1 12:00PM - 1:00PM

The Offices of Student Affairs and Faculty Affairs are offering a lunch hour hands-on seminar session on building resilience on Thursday, March 1, 12:00-1:00, in room 458 Salk Hall as part of the School of Dental Medicine Teaching and Learning Seminar Series.

Building a Tougher Student: Applying the Research on Mindset

Are students today less resilient than they used to be? Are they more prone to crack under stress or adversity? In this workshop, we’ll explore those questions and discuss the research on Mindset, identifying research-based interventions and practical teaching strategies to help students build resilience and learn from setbacks and failure. By the end, participants will be able to:

•   Distinguish the characteristics of a growth vs. fixed mindset

•   Discuss evidence-based interventions shown to build resilience

•   Identify specific teaching strategies to leverage Mindset research

Session facilitated by Marie Norman, PhD, is Associate Professor and Director of the Innovative Design for Education and Assessment (IDEA) Lab at the Institute for Clinical Research Education in the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Medicine.
