Early-career investigators from the University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health were well represented at the American Heart Association Epidemiology and Prevention Scientific Sessions, held March 17-20 in Boston.
More than 10 trainees, staff and faculty from the school’s Department of Epidemiology (EPI) and Department of Environmental and Occupational Health (EOH) delivered poster and oral presentations spanning cardiometabolic health, obesity, aging and global health research. The annual meeting brings together researchers focused on the prevention and management of cardiovascular disease and related conditions.
EPI doctoral students Alex Grant and Namhyun Kim presented in the Global Cardiovascular Disease Health session, while Andrea Kozai, assistant professor of epidemiology, presented in the Women’s and Maternal Health session. Ian Jacobs and Lauren Carlson, trainees in the cardiovascular disease T32 program, were selected to present in the National Institutes of Health/National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute Trainee Oral Session, which features work from federally funded trainees.
Additional poster presenters from the School of Public Health included EPI doctoral students Ruel Beresford, Mengyi Li, Ryan Cvejkus, Arnur Gusmanov and Jiayi Zhou; MD/PhD trainee in epidemiology Joshua Garfein; EOH doctoral student Nusrat Jahan; EOH postdoctoral student Natalie Price; and Mindy Coccari, associate director of the Ultrasound Research Lab in the Department of Epidemiology. Their work addressed topics including hypertension, environmental exposures, subclinical cardiovascular health, maternal and fetal health, omics, cognition and aging.
