As 2025 draws to a close, the School of Public Health has much to celebrate, including notable achievements by faculty, students and community partners.
Some of the most exciting highlights from 2025 show just how far we’ve come:
- First, our enrollment continues to grow—we now have more than 1,200 students at Pitt Public Health. Of special note is that our Bachelor of Science in Public Health program is now 500 students strong—the largest growth in the nation!
- Second, our research funding has increased despite recent challenges, and we are proud to be ranked sixth in National Institutes of Health funding among all schools of public health.
- Third, our faculty published nearly 1,000 peer-reviewed manuscripts this year, a testament to their expertise and dedication to the highest quality science.
- And finally, we’ve gone the distance with distance learning, making sure that Pitt Public Health education is available in Pittsburgh, in urban and rural communities throughout the Commonwealth and around the world!
“This is a wonderful reflection of the exceptional work happening across our school,” said Maureen Lichtveld, MD, MPH, dean and Jonas Salk Professor in Population Health. “Our efforts continue to shine—from influential publications and rising rankings to meaningful awards that highlight the school’s impact.”
Looking ahead, our priorities as a school are clear and ambitious:
- We will champion One Health as a powerful strategy to interdict and where possible prevent pandemics
- We will harness applied public health artificial intelligence to advance precision public health transforming data into actionable solutions.
- We will advance the health of older Americans to ensure healthy aging and well-being.
- Through these priorities, our mantra remains making science work for all communities, in Pittsburgh, nationally and worldwide.
“There is so much to celebrate, and I am proud of all we are accomplishing together,” Lichtveld said.
