Shauna A. Clark serves as the inaugural diversity advisor to the Center for Cancer Research (CCR) director at the National Cancer Institute, part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). In her role at CCR, she develops and implements policies and programs to make the center a more diverse and inclusive environment while
highlighting and creating opportunities for historically underrepresented scientists. She is committed to ensuring that all who want to participate in scientific endeavors have the opportunity to do so and feel valued, supported and included.
Prior to being selected as the CCR diversity advisor, she was the director of the NIH Academy— a health disparities program for fellows/trainees at the institute. As director, Shauna oversaw the academy’s growth to the impressive, multi-faceted recruitment program that it is now. She also created the NIH Academy Enrichment Program to increase diversity in the institute’s postbaccalaureate program.
Clark earned her BS in biochemistry from Texas A&M University and her PhD from Pitt’s Graduate School of Public Health, where she served as vice president of the Student Government Association. She completed postdoctoral work with the liver diseases branch of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.
In her free time, she loves neighborhood hikes with her husband, Darryl, and their adorable puppy, Pepper. She also enjoys reading, cooking, traveling and painting.
