Experts appearing in a new Channel 4 documentary say difficult conversations must be had about medicine and human behaviour in the pandemic

THE TELEGRAPH - Back in January, when the world was beginning to hear of what looked like an outbreak of mild respiratory illness in the Chinese city of Wuhan, Derek Angus (BCHS '92) was contacted by a worried former colleague. Zhiyong Peng had worked with him at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in the US and now headed the department of critical care medicine at the Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University in China.

Derek Angus, chair of critical care medicine and distinguished professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management, says hard conversations about who should be prioritized will be needed both within and between countries. It might be decided that frontline workers should be at the head of the queue, but you could say that minorities who have a disproportionate burden of the disease should have a chance. You must be transparent about your principles of fairness.
