‘Will my county reopen soon?’ Roberts describes factors going into ‘red’ to ‘yellow’ decision

WTAE - With Pennsylvania planning to announce the first round of counties eligible for limited reopening on Friday, Pittsburgh's Action News 4 spoke with Dr. Mark Roberts, the professor and chair of the Department of Health Policy and Management at Pitt Public Health. 

He says increased testing is important because it gives officials a better picture about the true nature of COVID-19's prevalence and how it spreads. "The science can’t quite tell us yet what the level of disease has been in Allegheny County in general, so we don’t really know how many people have been sick, or have gotten infected and not gotten sick."

Since there can be asymptomatic carriers, we need to ramp up testing to determine which counties can reopen. He’ll be looking closely at states that have eased stay-at-home restrictions to see what impact, if any, a limited reopening has.
