image

Doctoral student Beth Hoffman (BCHS '19 '23) uses system science methods to analyze social media data related to health topics such as vaping and vaccination. She earned a BSc in Human Biology from Brown University and an MPH at Pitt Public Health. Her master's thesis, which used quantitative, qualitative, and social network analyses to examine anti-vaccine sentiment on Facebook, formed the basis for a first-author publication that was featured by multiple media outlets including CNN, Newsweek, and NBC's WPXI. Hoffman has also served as a research assistant on numerous projects related to media and health at Pitt's Center for Research on Media, Technology, and Health.
