Integrating mind mapping tools in your teaching

Along with being free and easy-to-use, mind mapping tools engage students, encourage brainstorming and generate discussions. These online tools can get students to discover nuances in class topics which, in turn, gets people talking. The educational community has embraced this learning tool because it has been shown to reinforce students' knowledge of complex topics for a deeper learning of course concepts. Among other in-class benefits, they can also be utilized to facilitate collaboration outside of class for group projects or assignments.

Instructors can also mind map to plan and organize lessons, assignments, or curricula, getting a clear visual overview of what the process will look like.

Pitt Public Health faculty, staff, and students can see several mind mapping tools in action at the EdTech Extravangza on October 11 from 2:30-4pm in A521. Sign up today!)
