EMERSON EVANS (IDM '12) is currently working in South Africa on detail with the CDC and helping out with The United States President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) Country Operational Plan submission. His detail will last 3-4 months. He is enjoying his time abroad and told IDM's Linda Frank, MPH-MIC program director, that he is "grateful to be getting some global health experience." Evans landed this opportunity as a result of his work as a public health advisor at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). SAMHSA is the agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that leads public health efforts to advance the behavioral health of the nation. SAMHSA's mission is to reduce the impact of substance abuse and mental illness on America's communities.
