Pyne honored with two memorial oration awards in India

SAUMYADIPTA PYNE, scientific director for the Public Health Dynamics Laboratory (PHDL) has been selected to receive two oration awards, both of which will be presented to him in India in November.

The first award is the 2017 Subha Mukherjee Memorial Oration from the Physiological Society of India. Mukherjee passed away from cancer at an early age and her brother, professor Santosh Dev Mukherjee, head of the Department of Ear, Nose, and Throat at the National Medical College in Calcutta, instituted the oration lecture to commemorate her memory. The oration will be delivered at the XXIXth Annual Conference of The Physiological Society of India, to be held at Delhi University November 5-7, 2017. As the recipient of the honor, Pyne will be awarded with a medal and a citation.

The second award is the Kiruba Sankar Memorial Oration from the St. John’s National Academy of Health Sciences in Bangalore. Sankar was a bright young doctor, trained in community medicine and passionate about his field work. His interests lay in many areas including epidemiology, nutrition, informatics, and humanities. Sankar lost his life tragically in an accident on an official field trip. The memorial lecture on the topic of Big Data in Epidemiology and Public Health will be delivered at St. John’s Research Institute in Bangalore on November 7, 2017.
