“Danger Zone,” a feature about GSPH Dean Donald S. Burke, MD, won a 2008 Golden Quill Award from the Press Club of Western Pennsylvania in the health/medical magazine category. The awards recognize professional excellence in journalism and are judged by members of press clubs from around the country. The article, written by Bo Schwerin, appeared in the Fall 2007 issue of Pitt Magazine. It chronicles some of Burke’s fieldwork in tracking the origins of HIV. It also explores how those experiences informed his subsequent research in other emerging infectious diseases, vaccines, and epidemic prediction and prevention. The full article can be read here.
