Allegheny County: The State of Our Health

On Dec. 3, medical researchers from across the region gathered at the University of Pittsburgh for a conference entitled "Health Across the Lifespan: Allegheny County 2012." The goal of the conference was to discuss the state of the health of Allegheny County residents.    BCHS Associate Professor Jessica Burke discussed the racial disparities in birth outcomes in the region and her approach to research with City Paper .  

American Foundation for AIDS Research Training Program

Four scholars from Lebanon, Vietnam, South Africa and China will be arriving next month to participate in "A Training Program for Research Among MSM in Developing World Settings" from January to May 2013 under the supervision of Dr. Ron Stall. Professor Ron Stall to give the Developmental Center for AIDS Research Lecture in Honor of World AIDS day

Professor Ron Stall will give the Developmental Center for AIDS Research lecture in Honor of World AIDS day at the University of Chicago on December 3rd. His talk will address the the responses to AIDS among MSM at the start of the fourth decade of the epidemic. The lecture will be held at the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health and is open to the general public.

Epidemiology Department mourns the loss of longtime friend and colleague

A memorial service is set for 1 p.m. Dec. 10 at Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church for faculty member Kim Sutton-Tyrrell, who died Dec. 3, 2012, of ocular melanoma. Tyrrell, vice chair for academics in the Graduate School of Public Health’s Department of Epidemiology, was 54.
