Pitt Public Health’s Center for Health Equity and Maternal and Child Health Center of Excellence recently celebrated students dedicating their education to advancing health equity, health justice and maternal and child health with a year-end event.

During the celebration, students were honored for completing certificates in maternal and child health and health equity, participating in the Health Justice Scholars program and serving as student leaders in the Maternal and Child Health Equity Scholars program. Honorees received certificates and small gifts in recognition of their accomplishments and commitment to improving the health and well-being of communities that have been historically disenfranchised. Certificate graduates also received honor cords to wear during the school-wide graduation ceremony.
The event was hosted by the Center for Health Equity and included remarks of appreciation from center leadership, including Theresa Chapple, PhD, MPH and Jason Deakings, PhD, MSPH.
As students prepare for their next steps, the celebration served as a reminder that health equity, health justice and social justice remain central to the mission of public health—and to the work Pitt Public Health students will continue to lead in their communities and careers.
