Dr. Ha's research focuses on social and behavioral aspects of HIV/AIDS, stigma, ART adherence and sexually risky behaviors among vulnerable populations including people living with HIV (PLHIV), men who have sex with men (MSM), young people and young migrants. He is currently PI on an R21 from NIH/NIMH that assesses HIV prevalence and multiple risk factors associated with HIV prevalence among young migrant female workers in the industrial zones in Vietnam. Previously, Dr. Ha was working on an multilevel and multifactorial intervention study assessing the impact of alcohol use on ART adherence among men living with HIV in India. He was also working as a postdoc fellow at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Public Health focusing the research on social and behavioral aspects of HIV/AIDS and sexual concurrency among MSM and “Money Boys” in China.

In addition, Dr. Ha is a public health physician cum data evaluation director in the MidAtlantic AIDS Education & Training Center (MAAETC) which provides HIV/AIDS education, consultation, technical assistance and resource materials to health care professionals throughout Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware and the District of Columbia.

Dr. Ha possesses extensive experience in international health and public health practice, program implementation, policy advocacy and promoting international partnership. He previously worked the United National Population Fund (UNFPA) and United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Vietnam. He has been working in the area of sexual and reproductive health and HIV/STIs for the past 15 years as a researcher, program manager, and policy advocate in the U.S., India, China and Vietnam
