Prospective Evaluation of Telomere Length and Cancer and Death

Dr. Yuan received his medical degree and his Master of Public Health from the Shanghai Medical University, China, and a doctorate in epidemiology from the University of Southern California. Dr. Yuan is a tenured professor at the Department of Epidemiology and the Arnold Palmer Endowed Chair of Cancer Prevention at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute. Previously he was a tenured professor at the University Of Minnesota School Of Public Health. An accomplished investigator, he is recognized for his contributions in the area of cancer epidemiology and the role of dietary and other environmental exposures, genetic variations and gene‐environmental interaction in the etiology and prevention of cancers of lung, liver, colon, rectum, breast and urinary bladder. His research aims to develop cancer prevention strategies. Dr. Yuan has played a critical role in the establishment and maintenance of two large prospective cancer epidemiology cohorts where he serves as PI. The Shanghai Cohort Study and The Singapore Chinese Health Study, consisting of more than 80,000 study subjects with more than 25 years of follow‐up. Besides the observational cancer epidemiology studies, Dr. Yuan and his research team have launched several randomized intervention studies to further evaluate the cancer protection potential of several dietary agents including dietary isothiocyanates present in cruciferous vegetables and green tea extracts.
