May 15 - A Health Equity Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic in Allegheny County

COVID-19 has brought the nation to a stand still. However, the effect of its spread is impacting neighborhoods and populations differently. Nationally, we're seeing disproportionate mortality, testing, and exposure to the virus by certain populations and workgroups. Are we experiencing similar inequities in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County? Noble Maseru, director of the Center for Health Equity, will moderate a conversation between EPI and CHE's Tiffany Gary-Webb and Fred Brown of The Forbes Fund about solutions for an equity-oriented response. 

Fred Brown is president and CEO of The Forbes Fund. Prior to that, he served as the president and CEO of the Homewood Children's Village. Brown has worked in the non-profit arena and in public education for over 30 years. His roles have included social worker, consultant, coach, meditation specialist, confict resolution and strategic thinker, and advocate for social justice. 

Tiffany-Gary Webb is associate professor of epidemiology and associate director of the Center for Health Equity with 20 years of experience working to understand the social/environmental determinants of chronic disease and implementing interventions to improve prevention and control.

Noble Maseru is also a professor of behavioral and community health sciences and associate dean for diversity and inclusion.
