Career Services Resources for Faculty

We’re DEDICATED TO HELPING STUDENTS REACH THEIR CAREER DESTINATIONS

We do this in a variety of ways, including providing skill-building workshops, connecting students with potential employers through the Handshake job board, and offering individual counseling sessions.

Faculty can help encourage students to take advantage of our complimentary in-house services early in their academic career, before starting a job search.

Here are some ways that faculty and staff can work together to encourage workplace readiness as well as candidacy for prestigious fellowships or postdoctoral opportunities:

Refer Students

Encourage your students to attend our workshops and events. You can also recommend students meet with Career Services for a one-on-one appointment. Students can schedule an appointment with Kim Abraham using Handshake, the University's online career platform.

Examples of the Most Requested Services

  • General career or job search advice
  • Resume, CV, and cover letter assistance
  • Networking and interviewing skills
  • Identifying and preparing for internships, fellowships and postdoc opportunities

Idea: Copy and paste career services information into your syllabus or add a link to career services to your course website.

Share Internship and Job Opportunities

Our success in connecting students with opportunities is a determining factor in building lasting relationships with recruiters. The more success organizations have with our students, the more often they will return to our school when they look to fill a position.

If you receive a job, fellowship, or internship announcement, please forward to Kim Abraham and we will follow up with the employer/hiring manager to provide information on posting the opportunity on Handshake. We also encourage you to share contacts with us that would be suitable for addition to our employer database or to invite to our career fair.

Social Media

The Pitt Public Health Alumni & Student Network on LinkedIn serves as a meeting place for students and alumni of the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health. The page is used to share professional development content, career-related information/news, and job opportunities. We also use Facebook to share tips and articles relevant to job searching for our students.

Special Events

You can lend your support by encouraging student participation in school-wide events offered by Career Services, such as career fairs and workshops. Some faculty members include attendance at events as part of a class requirement or offer extra credit for documented participation.
