Realistic Simulations as Virtual Laboratories to Inform Public Health Policy

Tuesday 11/29 12:00PM - 1:30PM
Public Health A521

Dr. Kumar uses realistic simulations of populations to examine the drivers of disease in poorer communities and to assess the impacts of healthcare delivery and labor policies. In this talk, she will provide examples of simulations to: examine drivers of influenza inequalities by census tract poverty, assess the impact of healthcare delivery policies after Hurricane Sandy in New York City, and quantify the costs and benefits of alternative formulations of paid sick days laws in Pennsylvania State. The timely examination of costs and benefits of paid sick days laws enhances the evidence base available to policy makers for potential future opportunities.

Supriya Kumar, PhD, MPH
