This symposium aims to examine—from multiple perspectives—the mixed legacy of Thomas Parran, Pitt Public Health's founding dean.  Expert panelists include: 

  • Dr. Thomas Parran:  An Overview of His Career

  • Escaping Melodrama: What do we do about the "bad" men in the studies in Tuskegee and Guatemala?

  • Lessons from the History of the US Public Health Service Research Studies in Tuskegee and Guatemala

Refreshments will be available starting at 2:00

3:15 - 3:45            Discussion among the speakers (Dr. Jenkins will moderate)

3:45 - 4:15            Audience questions for the speakers
