Michelle Clayton, a pediatrician with CHKD’s Child Abuse Program, was recognized Monday by Gov. Bob McDonnell’s Advisory Board on Child Abuse and Neglect for her exceptional work in prevention of child abuse and neglect.
The award, which recognized Clayton for “truly outstanding” work whose impact on patients is “of major importance,” was presented at the 2012 Virginia Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Conference in Richmond on Monday.
Monday’s award marks the second time Clayton has been cited for her work by the office of Gov. Bob McDonnell. She recently won a national award for her efforts that will be presented in Washington, D.C., later in the month as the result of a nomination from the governor’s office.
“We have always had a staff that has garnered state and national recognition, and we’re thrilled that Dr. Clayton is also being recognized for her exceptional dedication,” said Jane Hollingsworth, executive director of CHKD’s Child Abuse Program.
Clayton joined CHKD’s Child Abuse Program in 2004. During her tenure, she has been involved in the treatment and prosecution of hundreds of cases, while providing training and workshops to prosecutors, judges, therapists and court guardians in Virginia and throughout the nation. An expert in both the clinic and the courthouse, Clayton was named by Virginia Lawyer’s Weekly the most influential woman of 2010.
