Elsa S. Strotmeyer, Ph.D., M.P.H., assistant professor in the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health’s Department of Epidemiology, was recently named a fellow with the Gerontological Society of America.
The society – the nation’s largest interdisciplinary organization devoted to the field of aging – confers the status of fellow as an acknowledgement of outstanding and continuing work in gerontology. It is the highest class of membership within the Gerontological Society of America.
“I am honored to be named a fellow of the Gerontological Society of America,” said Dr. Strotmeyer, also a member of Pitt Public Health’s Center for Aging and Population Health. “Receiving this recognition from such a prestigious organization is very encouraging to my continued research in peripheral nerve impairments, diabetes and osteoporosis – all important issues in the health and function of older adults.”
The fellowship recognition can come at varying points in an individual’s career and can acknowledge a broad scope of activity, including research, teaching, administration, public service, practice and notable participation within the society.
Dr. Strotmeyer and the other fellows selected this year will be formally recognized during the society’s 67th Annual Scientific Meeting in November in Washington, D.C.
