GSPH Welcomes a Rock Star of Alzheimers Research

GSPH is pleased to present the Jay L. Foster Memorial Scientific Lecture in Alzheimer’s Disease on Friday, October 16, 2009, Noon-1:30 p.m., A115 Crabtree Hall. The speaker is Rudolph Tanzi, PhD, who will speak on the topic, “Alzheimer's Disease: Prospects for Early Prediction, Early Prevention.” Tanzi, who was named one of the Rock Stars of Science by Geoffrey Beene Gives Back and GQ magazine, is the Joseph P. and Rose F. Kennedy Professor of Neurology, Harvard Medical School; and director, Genetics and Aging Research Unit, MassGeneral Institute for Neurodegenerative Disease, Massachusetts General Hospital.

Tanzi’s research is primarily aimed at identifying and characterizing Alzheimer’s disease-associated gene mutations/variants with the ultimate goal of defining the molecular, cellular, and biochemical events leading to neuronal cell death in the brains of AD patients. His current focus is to translate knowledge gained regarding genetic mechanisms of neuropathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease into drug discovery.
