Driving Directions
From the North
- Take I-79 South to the I-279 South Exit.
- Follow I-279 into the city, then take the I-376 Monroeville exit.
- Follow I-376 to the Forbes Avenue/Oakland Exit.
- Follow Forbes Avenue to the University of Pittsburgh.
- Turn left onto Oakland Avenue. (Gus Miller's Newsstand)
- Cross over Forbes Avenue and Fifth Avenue.
- The Graduate School of Public Health will be on your right as Oakland Avenue turns into DeSoto Street.
From the South
- Follow I-79 North to the I-279 North Exit.
- Take 279 through the Fort Pitt Tunnel and across the Fort Pitt Bridge.
- At the end of the bridge, take the I-376 Monroeville Exit, the first exit on the right.
- Follow 376 to the Forbes Avenue/Oakland Exit.
- Follow Forbes Avenue to the University of Pittsburgh.
- Turn left onto Oakland Avenue. (Gus Miller's Newsstand)
- Cross over Forbes Avenue and Fifth Avenue.
- The Graduate School of Public Health will be on your right as Oakland Avenue turns into DeSoto Street.
From the East
- Take the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-76) west to Exit 6.
- At Exit 6, take I-376 West.
- Take Exit 7A, Oakland. At the bottom of the exit ramp, turn right onto Bates Street.
- Stay on Bates until it ends at Bouquet Street. Turn left onto Bouquet.
- At the third stop sign, turn left onto Sennott Street.
- At the stop sign, turn right onto Oakland Avenue. Cross over Forbes Avenue and Fifth Avenue.
- The Graduate School of Public Health will be on your right as Oakland Avenue turns into DeSoto Street.
From the West
- Take the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-76) east to Exit 3.
- At Exit 3, follow signs to I-79 South.
- Exit to the left off I-79 onto I-279 South.
- Follow I-279 into the city, then take the I-376 Monroeville exit.
- Follow I-376 to the Forbes Avenue/Oakland Exit.
- Follow Forbes Avenue to the University of Pittsburgh.
- Turn left onto Oakland Avenue. (Gus Miller's Newsstand)
- Cross over Forbes Avenue and Fifth Avenue.

The following hotels are all in Oakland and are at most a 20-30 minute walk from the Graduate School of Public Health. They are listed in order of proximity, starting with the closest. The Graduate School of Public Health is at 130 DeSoto Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15261. Information on parking can also be found on our website. You may also want to consider using the excellent bus service to get to campus from your hotel.
For questions concerning the Port Authority of Allegheny County, please call 412-624-3228 to reach the University’s Telefact service, a student-operated organization whose mission is to answer questions about the University and the city. They are open from 12:00 PM -9:00 PM during the school year. Please be aware that bus fare is $2.00 each way, and the drivers do not give change.

Walking directions (10 minutes)
Turn left out of the lobby entrance. Walk through the parking lot and turn left onto Lytton Avenue. At the light, turn right and cross Lytton onto Fifth Avenue. Continue walking down Fifth Avenue until you reach the second stoplight. GSPH is on your right, at the corner of Fifth Avenue and DeSoto Street.
By Bus
You can take any 61 or 71 A, B, C or D down Fifth Avenue, getting off at the Children’s Hospital/Atwood Street stop. You will pass the Graduate School of Public Health on your right just before exiting the bus. GSPH is located at the corner of DeSoto Street and Fifth Avenue.

Turn left out of hotel’s main entrance to get onto Forbes Avenue. Walk down Forbes Avenue until you reach Oakland Avenue. Counting the light at the corner of McKee and Forbes (where the hotel is located) as the first, Oakland Avenue will be the third light. Turn left onto Oakland Avenue. Walk up Oakland Avenue to Fifth Avenue. GSPH is across Fifth Avenue from Oakland Avenue, at the corner of Fifth Avenue and DeSoto Street.
By Bus
You can catch a 61A, B, C or D bus on the corner of Forbes Avenue and McKee Place and take it to Oakland Avenue.

Turn right to leave the Quality Inn parking lot. Then turn left when exiting the parking lot. Walk to the end of this street and turn left onto Coltart Avenue (there is no street sign at this end). Walk all the way up Coltart Avenue to Forbes Avenue (CVS on the corner). Turn right onto Forbes Avenue and walk until you reach Oakland Avenue (at the fourth traffic light). Turn left onto Oakland Avenue. Walk up Oakland Avenue to Fifth Avenue. GSPH is across Fifth Avenue from Oakland Avenue on the corner of DeSoto Street and Fifth Avenue.
By Bus
You can catch a 61A, B, C or D bus on the corner of Forbes Avenue and McKee Place and take it to Oakland Avenue.

Turn right out of the main hotel entrance and proceed down toward the entrance to the parking lot. Make a left onto Hamlet Street. At the end of Hamlet Street, turn left onto Craft Avenue. Walk up Craft Avenue until the first light and turn right onto Forbes Avenue. Follow Forbes Avenue to the sixth traffic light and turn left onto Oakland Avenue. Walk up Oakland to the first light. The Graduate School of Public Health will be ahead of you on the corner of Fifth Avenue and DeSoto Street.
By Bus
Instead of turning onto Forbes Avenue at the first light on Craft Avenue, continue on Craft to the second light, at Fifth Avenue. There you can take any 61 or 71 A, B, C or D down Fifth Avenue, getting off at Oakland Avenue. The Graduate School of Public Health will be across Fifth Avenue, on the corner of DeSoto and Oakland Avenues.

Turn right after leaving the hotel and continue to walk down Bigelow Boulevard. At the first light, you will cross over Centre Avenue, staying on Bigelow Boulevard. Follow the road passed Parkman Avenue. When the road ends, turn right onto Bayard Street and then take an immediate left onto Ruskin Avenue. At the light, turn right onto Fifth Avenue. Follow Fifth Avenue to the sixth light at DeSoto Street. The Graduate School of Public Health is located on the corner of Fifth Avenue and DeSoto Street.
By Bus
There is a bus stop on Bigelow Boulevard very close to the entrance of the hotel. You can take the 77C a few blocks to the light at Bigelow Boulevard and Bayard Street (just passed Parkman Avenue). You must get off the bus here, turn right onto Bayard Street and then immediately left onto Ruskin Avenue. Follow Ruskin to the light and turn onto Fifth Avenue. You can take any 61 or 71 A, B or C bus for the remaining blocks, getting off at the Children’s Hospital/Atwood Street Stop. You will pass the Graduate School of Public Health on the right just before exiting the bus. GSPH is located on the corner of DeSoto Street and Fifth Avenue.

Turn right out of the hotel’s main entrance and walk down Liberty Avenue to Centre Avenue. Follow Centre Avenue until you reach Craig Street. Turn left onto Craig Street. Follow Craig Street until the second light, at Fifth Avenue and turn right. Follow Fifth Avenue to the seventh traffic light. The Graduate School of Public Health will be on your right at the corner of DeSoto Street and Fifth Avenue.
