Graduation Weekend

Graduation Weekend Events - April 29 and 30, 2017

All 2016-17 graduates are invited to three events during the weekend of April 29-30 (Commencement, Celebration of Student Awards, and Convocation). 

Formal invitations to the Pitt Public Health events are sent to all graduates via U.S. mail mid-March. If you don't think we have your most recent mailing address or the best e-mail address, contact Caitlin McCullough. Students can stay tuned to the Weekly Update, e-mails from the Office of Student Affairs, and the web for further information.

University of Pittsburgh Commencement: Graduate Ceremony

Saturday, April 29, 4 p.m., Petersen Events Center  

The Graduate Ceremony takes place on Saturday, April 29, 4 p.m. at the Petersen Events Center, with a reception to follow. Students must wear academic regalia to participate. Doctoral students will be hooded. Students graduating in June of 2017 will not be permitted to participate in the University's ceremony.

Pitt Public Health Celebration of Student Awards

Saturday, April 29, 6:30 p.m., O'Hara Student Center

Graduates are invited regardless of whether they are selected for an award. Awardees will be notified by the school. Awardees may bring guests ($25 for guests over 10 years old). Payment for guests attending the Celebration of Student Awards must be mailed or dropped off to the Office of Student Affairs prior to the event. 

Pitt Public Health Convocation

Pitt Public Health's 67th Convocation honors graduates from the 2016-17 academic year. This year's speaker will be Deborah L. Birx, MD, coordinator of the United States Government Activities to Combat HIV/AIDS and the U.S. Special Representative for Global Health Diplomacy. 

Graduates from June, August, December 2016 and April 2017 are invited to participate in the ceremonies. Provided that the student's advisor notifies Mary Derkach, Masters students who will graduate in June of 2017 also may take part in the ceremony, as well as doctoral students who have scheduled their defense in time for June graduation. No tickets are necessary and there is no limit on the number of guests that a student can invite.

Students must wear academic regalia to Convocation (and also to the University's commencement). You can purchase regalia through Pitt's Graduation Central (see below).

Purchase Academic Regalia at Graduation Central

Graduates must wear academic regalia to both graduation ceremonies. Regalia can be purchased at Graduation Central on Tuesday, April 11 and Wednesday, April 12 from 11 a.m.-7 p.m in the Connolly Ballroom of Alumni Hall. Students who own caps and gowns from previous degree programs or who are able to borrow regalia need not purchase it.

Graduates attending Graduation Central will receive instructions for the University's Commencement ceremony at that time.

Regalia for Out-of-Town Graduates

You can either have a friend purchase your regalia at Graduation Central or you can call the University Store at 412-648-1455 to order. Shipping and handling charges apply.
