Interested in a career with a non-profit—or in developing a new NGO that will change lives? You’re sure to gain insight and inspiration from Samir Lakhani, a 24 year old graduate of the University of Pittsburgh who created Eco-Soap Bank, a Squirrel Hill-based organization that sterilizes and repackages discarded soap..

Samir Lakhani witnessed the spread of disease firsthand while volunteering in Cambodia. His non-profit, Eco-Soap Bank, has supplied more than 650,000 individuals with soap and hygiene education since 2014. 

Join Samir in room 630 of the William Pitt Union on Friday, February 9 from 3 - 4 pm.

The Center for Global Health is collecting items for IDM & Peace Corps Masters International (PCMI)  student, Megan Arden. Drop off your contribution to the Center for Global Health in room A310 Public Health. If you choose to send something other than a card, it must be small, non-perishable, and lightweight. Some favorite items include: candy/snacks (sour patch kids, raisins, hot cheetos, cheezits), magazines/lightweight books, and small personal care items (lip balm, hair ties, Band-Aids, etc). PCMI students always appreciate getting these care packages!

Carrie, First Geographer of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), revolutionized the way the U.S. combats global poverty, disease and natural disasters around the world — with mapping. She established and directs the USAID GeoCenter, a team of geographers and data analysts who help inform U.S. aid efforts around the world.This event is free, but space in the University Club is limited.

This workshop will be given by the Massachusetts General Hospital center for Global Health and will provide in-depth discussion and practical tips for bringing a culture of health, safety, and security to academic and institutional overseas programs. Using case-based discussion, small groups, and interactive sessions, these experts will help course participants navigate their most challenging issues related to the health, safety, and security of deploying and returning faculty, students, and staff overseas. The cost is $625 for members.

Jon McCourt has been a community peace activist and member of the Peace and Reconciliation Group in Derry, Northern Ireland, for more than 30 years. He played a major role in the development of the Community Awareness Training Programme and founded and established the first Victim Support Service in Northern Ireland in 1986. He has also worked with those involved in conflicts around the world, including Bosnia, the Middle East, Rwanda, and Colombia.

Join the Year of Pitt Global, the European Studies Center, and the Department of History for this Signature Event as we hear from Jon on his experience with conflict and peacemaking around the world.

Jon will answer questions following his talk in G24 of the Cathedral.

The Virtual Conference on Menstrual Hygiene Management in Schools enables the global sharing of new ideas and 'lessons learned', and connects people working on MHM in schools in a wide range of countries.  This gives online participants an opportunity to network, discuss key issues of relevance for advancing the agenda of MHM in schools, and identify potential future collaborations beyond their usual organizational or geographical boundaries.In 2017, the one-day virtual conference brought together an estimated 1,000 participants from over 60 countries around the world.
