Kar-Hai Chu of Pitt's Center for Research on Media, Technology, and Health will discuss his use of innovative techniques such as social network analysis (SNA) in exploratory and surveillance studies and interventions including recent work on the marketing and use of electronic cigarettes.

Environmental Signals of Economic Change and their Health Impacts

A health geographer specializing in geospatial methods, Dr. Dodson’s primary research focus is the coupled human-environment relationship, a complex system that often shapes health outcomes. Taking a mixed-methods approach, he has pursued this line of inquiry in a diverse array of low-resource settings such as sub-Saharan Africa and Appalachia, demonstrating how environmental signals may be associated with changes in health status. Drawing from political ecology, this research highlights the inequality associated with economic change.
