The Role of Pregnancy in the Opioid Epidemic

The prevalence of opioid use among women of childbearing age has reached epidemic proportions in the United States. This escalation has led to stark increase in the proportion of pregnant women needing treatment for abuse. This talk will review the role of pregnancy as a critical period of opportunity to engage women in treatment for opioid use disorder to provide screening and treatment for associated medical co-morbidities.
