BCHS Seminar Series

Physical-mental Health Comorbidity and the Role of Social Context

Friday 3/31 12:00PM - 1:30PM
A216 Public Health

Trained as a psychiatric and social epidemiologist, Dr. Goldmann’s earlier work focused on exploring the mechanisms through which social factors influence risk of posttraumatic stress disorder, the mental health consequences of disasters, and the health and social services needs of individuals who experience a psychiatric hospitalization in New York City. More recently, as a NIH StrokeNet fellow, her work has focused on identifying social factors and contexts that influence comorbidity between physical and mental health conditions and may be targeted to promote well-being. This talk will review two recent studies on post-stroke depression and suicidality among individuals with chronic disease, with an emphasis on the role of social factors in comorbidity.

Emily Goldmann, PhD, MPH
Clinical Assistant Professor
Department of Epidemiology
College of Global Public Health
New York University
